This is love

I met you,
I was graced by happenstance, the luck of the world, our paths crossed and I met you.

You were such a beautiful flower but the world hadn't treated you as kind.  I saw so much within you, so much life in your being.  I wanted to be with you, because you made me feel better.  I wanted to do all the kind things for you, so you would want to be with me.  I wanted to be nice to you so you can see how good it was to be with me.  I wanted you to be with me because I wanted to feel better.

I said nice things to you, I did nice things for you.  I lifted you up, told you that you were the world.  That you were something special, encouraged the spark in you to ignite the light that you can shine to others.  Be the bright shining star the world can see, see that I was able to capture that light.

I thought you were beautiful, I saw how people noticed you.  I wanted to be the one you wanted.  I wanted you to love me.  You filled my void, you suffocated my fear.  This was the one, this was my love for you.  I could show the world how I found a beautiful life.   Such a gracious soul wouldfind that a person like me would be deserving of your embrace.

So it was, as I wanted it to become, to show the world of your precious, caring light.  So many others enriched in your wake, wanted to be close to you as well.  You became the muse for many, the one that others looked up to.  Just like I was when I first met you.  Those days that I remember, being alone, without your light.  Now so many others want it for themselves.  A light that I can't lose, a life I don't want to go back to.  It's not that I don't care, not that I want to keep it all to myself, I am just afraid.  Afraid you might see that I wasn't as bright of a light to shine with you, that another might sway you away.  I don't mean to hide you, to cover your light, but I need to keep you down, lock up that light.

The world is dangerous and so many people will say they care but they just want to keep you light for them selves.  They will say nice things and do nice things for you.  They will lift you up and tell you that you are the world to them.  They will tell you that you are something special and that you need to let yourself shine, but they just want to keep you to themselves.  So please understand, as I put you in my box for me to only let you out.  I'm trying to save you, this is my love for you.  Now watch your head as I close the lid.

Protected like a fragile breath, I keep safe as not to hurt.  Then I was scratched and everyone took care of me.  They bandaged it up and cleaned it well.  It hurt... and I remembered. I healed and again protected myself, remembering only the pain.  Then I was scratched again, and no one to bandage it, no one to keep me from looking at the blood.  I remember the pain but I was used to it, I could feel it, I was drawn to it.  I wanted to see why it hurt, why it made me cry, so I stuck my finger in.  Excruciating waves quickly bloomed from my heart to my whole body and just as quick I pulled my finger out and the relief was divine. I shuttered to imagine the pain, yet I grit my teeth and stuck my finger further in. Sold myself

People say I've changed. I've changed just because I am trying to get you to like me.  That I have given up the traits people come to recognize in me. Given up what has made me who I am today. Yet that person now has met you. That person has grown to admire you. That person thinks highly of the person you have come to represent to those around you. That people think you are an outstanding person. So if I sold myself to you, changed to be a person you would admire. Shouldn't that mean the person you would want would be good too?  Maybe a change is what we need? A change for good perhaps, a change from the stagnate, or a change from now. Or is it that I have changed from what everyone else wants? Or I have changed from what the stagnate has made me? It's difficult to see if you drive the change or if the change is driving you. I hope you just respect me, and if you don't I can change.
